When it comes to promoting your business there are a variety of different ways in which you can do this but one of the most popular is to take part in some regular business networking. Once you start looking for these events you will be inundated with options and it can all feel a little overwhelming.

Here at GIN we believe that networking should provide you with the opportunity to promote your business as well as build up a network of other business professionals who can act as your built in marketing team and a ready made community of people you can turn to for business support.

When you look for a networking group there are a few areas that you may want to look into to help you decide which group you want to dedicate your time to.

Set up of the group

Some networking groups work on a business model and others like ourselves work on a not for profit basis. It is worth knowing where and how your membership and meeting fees are being spent so that you can decide what type of group best matches you and your own personal values.

Meeting schedule

Most networking meetings will operate on a similar basis with either  a breakfast or lunch being served, a sixty second slot for each business to discuss the types of customers they are looking for and then person an education section where a member will talk about their business in more detail or an external speaker will come into speak to the group about relevant business related issues.

The frequency as to which meetings are being held should also be considered. Some networking groups meet on a monthly basis and others on a weekly basis. We meet every Thursday at 6.45am so that we can meet with our fellow members and guests before we all head off to work for the day. Other groups may operate a lunch meeting or perhaps an after work get together. Your own work commitments will determine which meeting slots work best for you.

Member spaces

Networking groups like ourselves operate on a one business per industry seat basis. This is ensure that members can feel confident and not conflicted in who they pass their referrals to. Other networking groups that meet on a monthly basis allow any number of businesses from the same sector to attend. Again your commitment levels will determine which group will fit best for your business.
